The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment comprises units of competency required to deliver training in an industry specific or subject matter area, including competency-based assessment in a range of contexts.

This qualification comprises 10 units of competency. Students must complete 8 core units that cover the fundamentals of training and assessment, and then choose a specialisation from one of two elective streams to complete the qualification.

Core Units

Assessment (ASS)
This group of four units address the process of assessment, development of assessment tools, validation processes and leadership and coordination of assessment systems and services.

  • Assess competence (TAEASS402B)
  • Participate in assessment validation (TAEASS403B)
  • Design and develop assessment tools (TAEASS502B)

Learning Design (DES)
This group of two units addresses the competencies required to develop skills and knowledge in the use of Training Packages and individual competency needs.

  • Design and develop learning programs (TAEDES401A)
  • Use Training Packages and accredited courses to meet client needs (TAEDES402A)

Delivery and Facilitation (DEL)
This group of two units addresses the requirements to plan, organise and facilitate competency-based training.

  • Plan, organise and deliver group-based learning (TAEDEL401A)
  • Plan, organise and facilitate learning in the workplace (TAEDEL402A)

Elective Options

Elective Stream 1 - Distance Education
This stream is designed for trainers who need to teach via distance based learning, and who may also need to complete marketing activities as part of their job. It is ideal for small business operators.

Elective Stream 2 - Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills
Addresses issues particular to teaching adults who may need a greater focus on language, literacy and numeracy or higher education skills.
This is particularly useful when teaching students from non-English speaking backgrounds or who may not have studied since high-school.
